If you can't afford to collect the original .357 magnum revolver, the "Registered Magnum", or one of the original Model 27s which began production in 1939, the S&W Classic Model 27 is just the ticket! General Patton carried a Registered Magnum with a 3 1/2" barrel, and called it his "killing gun" for good reason! The Classic Model 27 with a 4" barrel stands up to its legacy in every way.
Eel smooth trigger pull in double action helps keep the sights on target. The clean light break in single action makes the Classic Model 27 one of the finest revolvers on the market. The ability to shoot a variety of .38 loads up to the hyper-penetrating .357 magnum makes it one of the most versatile handguns for sport, personal defense, law enforcement, and military use. I always carried a K Frame S&W in a shoulder holster under my BDU blouse.
And this is where the Classic Model 27 outshines other .357 magnums: with the beefy S&W N Frame. You can feed the Model 27 a steady diet of magnum rounds without beating the gun to death. It will stand the gaff and say, "Bring it!"
A feature of the Classic Model 27 that sets it apart from other contemporary Model 27s is the grips. The classic streamline contour of the wood grips provides something larger grips designed to absorb recoil can't offer - agility. To use any double action revolver accurately requires an ergonomic design for proper grip as the index finger glides through the full length of trigger pull. I have three S&W and two Colt double action revolvers, but the grips on the Classic Model 27 are by far the most ergonomically compatible grips for accurate double action use.
And for "pretty", the deep rich bluing on the Classic Model 27 can't be beat!
If you are a history buff, a gun enthusiast, interested in a self-defense weapon, or just have some .357 magnum ammo laying around and need a gun to shoot it with, you can't beat the S&W Classic Model 27!
