Description
Documented Factory Engraved First Generation Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter
Manufactured in 1907 with documented factory engraving. The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 4 3/4 inch barrel in .45 caliber, nickel finish, factory engraved and type of stocks not listed when shipped to H&D Folsom Arms Co. of New York City on June 20, 1907. The factory engraved floral scrollwork covers 60% of the surface. A simple line of dots is featured on the top strap, zig zag line motifs are on the ejector rod housing, back strap, butt and trigger guard, and fan type patterns appear on the recoil shield, loading gate and behind the hammer. The barrel has the two-line address on top and "45 COLT" inside a banner on the left side. The two-line patent dates marking is inside a banner followed by a circled Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame. The rear cylinder face has the last four digits of the serial number (non-factory). Matching serial numbers are on the frame, trigger guard and back strap.
Rating Definition:
Very good, retaining 90% of the moderately buffed, period replated nickel with some areas of smooth gray patina and high edge wear. The engraving remains mostly crisp. The slightly oversized replacement grips are fine with typical age cracking and a crisp carving. Mechanically excellent.
